10 Organizational Tips to Minimize Holiday Stress

Posted by at 30 November, 2010, 8:34 am

Although the holiday season is a joyous time of year that is full of celebration, it also can be stressful for some people.  Preparation for various holiday celebrations require a good amount of time and work and can often be overwhelming if not properly handled.  The following list provides ten organizational tips that can help us all breathe a little easier over the holiday season.

1.       Make more than a gift list:  Your gift list should not be the only list you make during the holiday season.  Jot down a quick organizational list of the things you need to get done.  Although it seems like a simple solution, it will help clear the clutter in your head and realize the important tasks.

2.       Distribute the work: If you are hosting a holiday party or dinner, you might try to take on the full brunt of the preparation yourself, which can be quite overwhelming.  Don’t be hesitant to distribute some of the preparation and cleanup work to other family members, friends or party goers – after all they are having fun on your watch.

3.       Pace Yourself:  Try to not leave most of your holiday preparation for the last minute before your celebration.  Do some of the work ahead of time by cleaning up, buying long term frozen food items and a log for the fireplace.

4.       Enjoy Yourself:  Although you are running the show, try to make some time to enjoy yourself.  After all, what’s the point of celebrating the holiday’s if you spend the whole time slaving over a stove and cleaning up the house?  Get your helpers to take over for an hour or two while you help yourself to a glass of wine and chat with friends.

5.       Don’t Rule Out the Secret Santa:  With certain circles of family and friends it makes perfect sense to not have to buy a gift for every person.  This can be very expensive and time consuming.  A Yankee Swap or Secret Santa game makes gift giving cheaper, faster, and fun.

6.       Realize You Can’t Please Everyone:  If you are throwing a large party for family and friends there are sure to be a few conflicting personalities around.  Don’t try to be the person who makes everyone happy – that’s simply impossible.

7.       Prepare with Junk Hauling:  Preparation is king and can certainly prevent a holiday disaster. One way to prepare is to haul off all the extra clutter in your home to make room for people to walk around the house and breathe a little.  Every home has an array of furniture, toys, equipment, and junk that is simply collecting dust and getting in the way all the time.  Get a junk hauling service to come by before your holiday party to efficiently remove those items and make room for your celebration.

8.       Breathe:  It may sound stupidly simple, but making sure you take time amidst all the holiday chaos to take a second for a deep breath can be a game changer.  Concentrating on your breathing will drastically decrease your stress level and allow you to continue with the task at hand.

9.       Get Your Holiday Exercise On:  Whether it be a post dinner walk around the block, a jog on the treadmill or a flag football game, try to get out and make your body active during the holidays.  Because of the cold weather, many of us are inclined to ‘hibernate,’ but that can lead to a low energy day.  Exercise will provide you with the fuel to keep going through your holiday preparation cycle.

10.   Moderation:  Many people take the holiday season as a time for excess in eating, drinking and buying.  Although it’s great to have a little fun, if you over-do it during the holidays it can lead to post-holiday depression and regret.  Have fun doing the little things that you love, but don’t do them in excess.

Importance Of Time Management Essay – What Is the Importance of Time Management

Posted by at 29 November, 2010, 12:22 pm

Importance Of Time Management Essay

Many people who are aware of the fact that work has to be done on time. In fact, if you can’t finish the tasks that require to be accomplished in a day, you presumably require a time management solution. It’s not unusual. Many people don’t have a satisfactory time management solution, but they should. Having a goal is quite critical. Importance Of Time Management Essay

Anyway, having a goal-oriented strategy that makes an effective use of your time will bring you success no matter how you look at it. There isn’t anything we can do about time itself. It keeps ticking the same as ordinary. We can change how we deal with events though.

It is hard to overestimate the importance of time management. Firstly, we cannot change the amount of time there is in a day. No matter how we juggle things around, there is still only twenty-four hours in a day.

This gives us a limited amount of time to work on during the year – in fact one might say that despite differing opportunities in life everyone has the exact amount of time, so the only thing we can do in our lives when it comes to time is altering the way we use it.

Once you realize this, you know that wasting time leads to a wasted job, project or even life itself. In this article, we look closely at the importance of time management in our lives.

Your important time starts now

Everybody knows that we have more than twenty different things that need to be done in a day. We don’t really know how we are going to fit all of this into our busy schedule.

The time management importance is this next statement: Those twenty things you need to do have to be prioritized. What does this mean? This means you need to put the things you want to do into a list and then decide which ones are more important, and which ones can wait.

The things that can be done later are still put on the list, but we know there are other areas to take care of first. We now have to decide how long we are giving ourselves to do each of those different tasks.

We need to be realistic. If it is an event that requires travel, the actual traveling needs to be put in the plan as well. If you know you have to stop for gas when on the road, you will need to add that into the plan as well. Importance Of Time Management Essay

This is to show you where all of the time is being used up. This can also help you with a time wasting strategy.

Put some priority into your daily activities

If you have followed your list and you still don’t have enough time in a day to do anything, look at your information to see where time is wasted. Wasted time is not good in any body’s life.

To be able to fit everything into your day you need to eliminate those time wasting activities. By doing, so you will be able to get more work done and still have time left to enjoy with yourself and your family.

The importance of time management can be gauge from the truth that by following its simple principles we can go from breathing day to day to living a full, successful live in which we work actively towards our life goals. No other skill or information set lets us achieve that.

Thanks a lot for taking your time to read this article. Go up before and look around to discover other helpful tips and information.

Even though, you may now know the importance of proper time management, but all words no actions is simply does not make your goals come true.

Take action now is the most right thing to do if you want you goals realized.
Without an effective and proper time management system, there will not be much goal-oriented lifestyle to hope for.

Understanding the fact that an effective program for time management habit may be easy to follow and implement and now allowing you to side-track is really allowing you to enjoy your life once again. How to Control Your Emotions in 1 Simple Step!

Posted by at 28 November, 2010, 3:44 pm

OK here you go.

The secret of the ages. How to control you emotions.

The key to happiness.

The key to it all.

Control your thoughts, control your feelings, control your life.

Here it is, in one simple word:

That’s it. Watch. Become an observer. All the suffering in the world has its root in attachment. People who suffer don’t watch. They become participants in their thinking and more importantly their feeling process.

Suffering has its root in being a thought combatant.

Thoughts won’t fight without your participation.

Many times we choose to participate in the thinking process. We jump right into the fray. We react. We fight. We resist. We don’t let go.

Judge. Fight. Resist. Repeat the process. Time and again each day.

If you would simply watch the process your problems would dissolve into opportunities.

You are awareness. You are not your thoughts. You are not your feelings. You are not your body.

Just awareness.

You do not need to identify with your thoughts, feelings or body. If you want to know how to control your emotions you can’t identify with these objects of your awareness.

Become an observer.

Meditation is a vehicle through which you can expand your awareness. You can surround each event of your life with a spacious quality.

You can simply be without being this or that.

You can be present. Not here or there. Just in the now.

It all starts with watching.

You don’t need to act on your thoughts, for you aren’t your thoughts. You are awareness attending to these thoughts.

Same deal with feelings. You don’t need to react to your feelings, for they are your feelings, your possession. The feelings aren’t you, they are simply objects of your infinite awareness.

Life becomes simple for an observer. Problems are no longer problems. Crises are opportunities for growing. Drama is not drama at all, just another moment that’s be noted.

To watch you must be open. Open to everything that happens in your life.

Here’s how to practice openness.

Find a quiet spot. Sit with your back straight, either cross-legged on the floor or in a chair.

Proceed to watch your thoughts and feelings. Watch everything. Note thoughts and feelings and release them. No attachment or clinging. Just note and release. The beginning of watching.

Start with 5 minutes of watching, or meditating, per day. Add 5 minutes each week.

Aim for at least 30 minutes of meditating per day.

Focus on how to control your emotions by watching them.

How to Get Rid of Fear, Anxiety and Stress

Posted by at 27 November, 2010, 9:24 pm

How to get rid of fear and stress in my fast paced, complex life was a problem that had tormented me for years.

I own a successful online investing business and am the father of two teenage girls.  We live in a nice home in an upscale neighbourhood.  Without bragging lt me tell you that I can easily afford to send my girls to one f the best private schools in North America.

Before you start to decide to hate me for having what seems to be a life on “easy street” let me make a confession.  I am a person who suffers from debilitating anxiety.  I never know when this anxiety will strike but it seems to come at me at the worst possible moments.

My biggest triggers seem to be occassions when I have to meet with or speak to people Ihave never met before. Talk about stress!

Prior to attending such a meeting the first thing I would notice was my heart starting to beat so quickly I sometimes wondered if I was going to pass out.  Then my hands would start to sweat (great for making a first impression handshake!) Then it would seem as if my brain just checked out – I had nothing to say, couldn’t remember a name, and I worried about what these new people were thinking of me.  I felt like running away, rushing out of the room!

Not the best way to impress potential clients!

I think I choose to start an online business as a way to avoid face to face contact with other people.  Unfortunately, avoiding situations that normally caused me to feel anxious in a attempt to get rid of my fear actually seemed to make the problem worse!

I decided to make it my mission to find out how to get rid of fear and stress in my life once and for all!

Since I am most comfortable online it was natural for me to start my search for answers by surfing the web.

And it was there I found the answer that worked so well for me.

The beauty of it was not only did it help me manage my stress and anxiety, I also became more self confident — all with almost no effort on my part!

Care to guess what this miracle in my life was?

If you guessed hypnosis you are absolutely correct!

Yes I stll have stress in my life to manage and  moments when I feel anxiety raise its ugly head.  But now I have a powerful tool to deal with it effectively.

5 Steps to Transform Overwhelm into Productivity

Posted by at 26 November, 2010, 9:43 pm

In Part 1 “5 Ways Spiritual Overload Syndrome Sabotages Your Productivity”, I explained that Spiritual Overload Syndrome is running rampant.

One of the serious consequences of our hyper-connected, fast-paced life isn’t just the overwhelm and not getting our goals accomplished. When we are always dashing around and stressed out, our bodies are perpetually being stimulated into a “flight or fight” response. Being constantly bathed in the release of adrenalin, we put our health at risk.

Here are 5 steps you can take to break free from Spiritual Overload Syndrome when it strikes, and transform overwhelm into productivity.

1. Break the Spiral and Get Grounded

When you are stuck in the spin cycle of SOS, you get into a mental and energetic churning state. Worry, doubt and critical thoughts start to run around like 3 hamsters on a wheel, creating a lack of clarity and confidence.

When you feel like you’re in that spin cycle, the first thing to do is stop. Move you body, whether by doing 10 jumping jacks, going for a walk or dancing to a favorite song. Changing your physical state in order to shift your emotional state can work quickly, and allow you to get grounded and see through clearer eyes.

2. Connect

Once you’ve broken your spiral of overwhelm, you’re ready to drop into your own wisdom. Take some deep breaths and imagine connecting to the Brilliant You that you are. Then ask yourself, “What is the highest expression of my brilliance now, in THIS moment?” Stop and listen to what your intuition has to show you or tell you.

Connect to your dreams and vision and remember WHY they are important to you. You want to connect to it not just intellectually. Connecting to your WHY on an emotional and visceral level and let that energy helps move you forward.

3. Braindump Everything

Feeling overwhelmed is often caused by mental gridlock. There are so many thoughts and ideas whizzing through our brain that we get stuck knowing what to do next. You hear the Visionary voice, getting interrupted by the Critic, who then drowns out your Executor voice.

Every voice is of service and brings something to the table. To break the gridlock, do a brain dump of all the thoughts and ideas you are having and write them on individual sticky notes. You can then group like thoughts and ideas together. This exercise will help you to listen to the voices, but in the order in which they need to be heard, so you can avoid the mental gridlock.

4. Choose Your Leverage Point

Once you’ve detangled your traffic jam in your consciousness, you’ll be able to look at things with more objectivity and clarity. Now it’s time to identify where your best leverage point it. Consider how you can best leverage your time, energy and focus to get the maximum impact.

5. Take Inspired Action Immediately

Now that you’ve identified your best leverage point, it’s time to take action. But not just any action. You want to take inspired action.  Decide on ONE inspired action you could take immediately. Choose it and do it right away. Don’t defer it and let procrastination or distraction slip in the side door again. Remember, consistent small steps are far more powerful than the inconsistent big steps.

Anger Management and the Holidays- 3 Steps to a stress free Holiday Season

Posted by at 26 November, 2010, 3:45 am

The holidays are just around the corner and we all know as wonderful as they are, they can also be a stressful time. In my work as a mental health clinician, I constantly see a pattern of heightened stress in families during the holiday season. Particularly when having to deal with family members that we just don’t get along with. Getting together with family that we hardly see or talk to for most of the year can cause great anxiety and tension. Many times this can lead to arguments, outbursts, and regrettable incidents. By preparing in advance and following a few anger management strategies, you might find yourself more at peace this holiday season.

Tip #1 – Give yourself permission to NOT be excited about the gatherings – Remember relatives are just that – people you are related to. You may love them, but it is okay to admit you don’t like them very much. Being realistic about this in advance can help you feel less guilty about your feelings. You’re not alone.

Tip # 2 – Set boundaries ahead of time – This goes along with giving yourself permission in some ways. The first step is to let those people know what you expect out of this holiday visit. For example, if your parents are the root of the problem, let them know in advance in a phone call that although you would really like to see them and spend this time with them, you would also like for them to refrain from discussing certain topics and making disrespectful remarks about your divorce or money problems. Be specific so they know what you mean. You also need to be able to understand what you can and cannot do. If you know you are not going to keep your cool around certain people, just say no. It is always best to politely decline an invitation beforehand instead of bailing last minute or, worse, creating a scene once you’re there. If it involves people you must see, such as parents or siblings, set aside a time limit for how long you will be there and stick to it before things get heated. Another tip might be to take a good friend along to serve as your anger thermometer and remind you of when it might be time to go.

Tip #3 – Prepare for the worst, hope for the best – If you know that Uncle Steve, “the belligerent drinker” will be there or you know your pops is bound to start the “what are you doing with your life” conversation, prepare for this. You don’t want to walk into these situations with a negative attitude and your guard up but it’s always a good idea to be prepared for what may come. Have a few ideas of what might come up and practice what you could say in order to avoid conflict. If hot-button issues usually surface, figure out a few ways that you might rein in your reaction ahead of time. In addition, have a couple of subject-changing questions or activities planned. Lastly, hope for the best and remember there is no better time to give thanks and forgiveness to those around us, including you.

The earliest forms of Mass were celebrated in tombs of martyrs in Rome. The celebration is more than memorial it depicts sacrifice also. It is Church’s method of fulfilling the command of Christ. The Catholic Church Mass Times are generally obligatory to be attended on Sunday. It is something, which all Catholic Christians do willingly, but definitely do not understand the significance of it.

The chosen day was Sunday because Christians had transferred the Sabbath day to Sunday. Sunday was when Christ was resurrected from the dead. It is obligatory to go by the Third Commandment, which tells us to keep the Sabbath Day holy. Hence, all catholic Christians has to attend the mass every Sunday.

In the early years, the mass was seen as a sacrifice or as a mythical reality where Christ’s sacrifice was, transformed. Personal Time Management Guide – Managing Stress Will Benefit Your Health and Time Management

Posted by at 24 November, 2010, 4:40 pm

Personal Time Management Guide

Nowadays many people are under quite an amount of stress, sometimes at work, and sometimes in their personal lives. Although having some stress is quite normal, it becomes a problem when the person loses sight of the other things that keep their life balanced. Some people under stress may start to have difficulties in relationships with friends and family, and others may become dependent on alcohol and drugs. Stress can be a trigger for illness, particularly for psychological conditions, including anxiety disorder, and depression. This article shows some techniques which help manage stress.

When a person is stressed because they feel that they have too much work to do, or their work is too difficult, they can be helped by learning the techniques of prioritizing and time management. Often a person under stress is not actually working effectively: they may be switching between tasks, or not tackling the more urgent tasks as a priority. Also they don’t necessarily realize that they’re not working effectively. Learning how to prioritize and to manage their time effectively can significantly reduce stress and improve productivity.

One way in which stress can be reduced is by undertaking regular physical exercise. Exercise and sports release chemicals in the brain which immediately cause a person to feel better. A quick 30 minute walk at lunchtime will release “feel good” chemicals in the human brain, and make that person much more effective and productive in the afternoon.

Relaxation techniques, and even meditation, are also often advised for people who are feeling under stress. If one can spend five minutes every hour closing your mind to your immediate problems, and just concentrating on controlling your breathing, and thinking pleasant thoughts it really does help you calm down. Personal Time Management Guide

One of the biggest things which reduce stress is being able to lead a balanced life. Spending time with family, or with friends, or just being able to take time for yourself, will have a major beneficial effect. People who just live for their work, are taking a major risk with their psychological well being. If, for example, they lose their job, or the project they are working on is not successful, they can regard that as a major personal failure, and this can have very bad psychological impact, even leading to illnesses such as depression and anxiety.

Those who are leading balanced lifestyles, can always rely on the support of family and friends if problems arise. Also problems and stresses are more easily seen in their proper perspective when you have a support network around you, and you have other activities and interests.

Learning how to successfully resolve conflicts is also a major stress reduction skill. Assertiveness training means being able to ask for what you want, or say how you feel, without being aggressive or manipulative. Conflicts can get resolved more quickly and with less aggravation, and stresses and frustrations are reduced.

Employers can help their workforce become more productive, and suffer less time off work due to stress related illnesses, by training their staff in the work and life techniques for managing stress. Personal Time Management Guide

Poor Time Management Examples – How Much Is Poor Time Management Costing You?

Posted by at 23 November, 2010, 8:33 pm

Poor Time Management Examples

* If you were paying you to prioritise emails over coaching your team, would you feel you were getting a good return on your investment? Poor Time Management Examples

* If you were paying you to waste time on trivia rather than planning your next quarters sales plan – would you think you were getting good value for money?

* If you were paying you to sit in numerous unproductive meetings would you feel that was a worthwhile contribution?

I suspect that the answer to those questions is no and yet, in effect, that’s exactly what you are doing. By choosing to adopt poor time management habits and poorly prioritise what’s important you are in effect creating a poor return on investment for your self your organisation or you own business.

No go One Step Further and ask your self
“If I was paying me by the hour, day or on specific results what would I pay myself?”

It might be $30/hour, $800/week or $150000/year depending on your skill, knowledge and experience and in what role or business you are in. Let’s say for example you are a manager earning $80000/year. Let’s assume you work 250 x 8 hour days a year, which means you are earning the equivalent of $40/hour

* For every hour you spend trawling through your emails the cost is $40

* For every ½ day you spend catching up on your personal administration because you are poorly organised the cost is $160

* For every day you sit in unproductive meetings the cost is $320

Now imagine that came out of YOUR paycheck. Would that refocus your priorities? Probably. Poor Time Management Examples

You can see now how your poor time management could be costing you dearly and that’s only in financial terms. You are probably paying the price physically and emotionally for your lack of prioritisation of what’s important versus what’s urgent and unimportant. But look how easily you can make impactful changes

Using the same average work pattern look how much extra time you could have if…

* You save 5 minutes a day; you will increase your productivity by 2.6 full days.

* You save 30 minutes a day; you will increase your productivity by 15.63 full days.

* You save one hour a day; you will increase your productivity by 31.25 full days.

Suddenly you have “created more time” with the opportunity to achieve more results. You can see that even small changes can make a huge difference.

Take Control of Your Time an by saving that time or by choosing to reallocate that time to higher priority work you will achieve better results, reach the targets you have been set and help others to do the same. By changing your costly habits you might also help others change theirs. Poor Time Management Examples

Important Suggestions For Natural Anxiety Relief

Posted by at 23 November, 2010, 7:48 am

If you have excessive and continuous worry, this can already be a symptom of clinical anxiety that must be treated by the appropriate doctor. However, since anxiety varies from one case to another, you can still minimize, if not totally eliminate, the so-called signs. After all, it is you who knows the causes of or reasons for your situation, and by pinpointing these factors, anxiety may be prevented or fought. Especially if it is still mild or still beginning, you can try using natural anxiety relief.

Regular exercise and a well-balanced diet can help immensely. Since stress is a big contributing factor to anxiety, fighting stress off through workouts and proper food choices can be of assistance. These exercises need not be formal or done in the gym, as even daily household chores or a walk in the park can be very helpful.

In addition, eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as sufficient water intake, can also work wonders. Quite simply, the early morning sun and the fresh air are very beneficial. Both gifts from Mother Nature make the body, a baby’s and an adult’s alike, stronger and revitalized. Vitamin D is said to promote good mood, whilst inhaling and exhaling the air’s freshness makes the lungs healthier, leading to a feeling of well-being.

Furthermore, there are some over-the-counter natural supplements like vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, the passion flower, valerian root, the kava, and many others, that may help you. One of these can be tried, and if effective, may be continued along with some professional advice for the long term reduction of anxiety. Women of the menopausal age level can consult gynecologists who can prescribe natural hormones that will help.

One more way to achieve natural anxiety relief is relaxation exercises such as yoga. By being in total control of the mind and the body, you can drive stress out of your system. Later, any trace of anxiety will be eradicated. Lastly, although many consider this ridiculous, watching or reading tragic news may somehow help by making you realize that there are people who are more unfortunate in life than you are. Thus, by analyzing your problems against theirs, yours will pale in comparison. Afterward, you will, either unconsciously or consciously, try to be thankful that you only have anxiety rather than something much worse.

Since there is indeed no great harm in trying, the above suggestions for natural anxiety relief can be tested one at a time. If you put your heart into the process, you will find out that anxiety can truly be controlled. It is the enemy and you are the hero. And like other heroes, you will win over it in the end, even if the process can be tedious.
