In today’s fast paced world, time management for high school students is essential. There never seems to be enough hours in a day. How do you find time to hang out with friends when you have to go to school for 6 and a half hours, attend soccer practice, do loads of homework, and work at your job all in one day? While you may have a lot to do, planning how you will spend your time will greatly increase how much you can get done in a single day. These effective time management for high school students strategies will help you accomplish all that you want to do.

Schedule how you will spend your day.

Make sure you write it down somewhere. No, you don’t have to carry around a daily planner everywhere you go. PDA’s and cell phones normally have some type of scheduling software. Though it helps to have a portable planner, writing your “to do” list in something stationary will be fine. You can make your schedule on your wall calendar or a calendar program like Microsoft Outlook.

Estimate how long it will take to do each task starting with the longest commitments.

Is soccer practice going to take an hour-and-a-half? Schedule that in. Do you have a ton of homework to do tonight? Estimate the amount of time and schedule a part of your day to do it. Starting with the most important and time consuming commitments helps you determine how much time you can spend on less important activities like playing video games. Needs first, then wants.

Know when you work your best

Maybe you don’t write very well in the morning, but excel at it in the afternoon and evening. If that’s the case, then doing your homework in the afternoon will be the best time to schedule a homework/study session. Combine tasks

Do you spend 30 minutes on the bus in the morning? Close the cell phone and get some reading or homework done! Since this commute has to be done daily, why not make some time in the afternoon when you have a choice of what you can do.

Remember the importance of sleep

Sleep can seem like the ultimate waste of time. You’re lying in bed doing nothing. But if your body is tired, it won’t function very well. You won’t remember much from your study session if you had to drink a couple energy drinks to keep your eyes open. A rested body is more productive.

Don’t be afraid to say “no”

We all like to please others, but your boss won’t fire you if don’t come into work to cover someone’s shift. If you’ve got a load of homework to do or you promised to help your mother at a fundraiser, those activities take precedence. This doesn’t mean you have to be inflexible, but your important tasks need to come first.

You can’t do it all

Sure, doing Cheer leading in the morning, taking all honors classes, playing basketball after school, and working 30 hours a week might seem fun. Unfortunately, you aren’t going to excel at a single one. It’s better to do a few things and focus on those than to do it all and struggle to get by.

Estimate the amount of free time you’ll have each day. Between 8 hours of sleep, 7 hours of school, 3 hours of extracurricular activities and/or homework, and anything else you’ve got going on, you may not have much spare time. If that’s the case, estimate the amount of time you may have. Then think about what you want to do and how much time you have to do it. Do you want to blow it by watching TV, or would you rather do something that feels more accomplishing, like writing a book? Whatever you choose to do, remember, down time is important.

Do you remember when you first learned how to swim? Or at least, you have watched someone take their first swimming lesson. There was that beginning fear or panic of being in the water. There was that feeling of helplessness and being in uncharted territory…the body tensed up, the arms became rigid, and fear took over. Then the arms started flailing and thrashing in the water as panic swept over our minds that we were certain that we would drown. Pure horror and absolute fear engulfed our very fiber and our soul. Death was imminent.

Ahhhhh….but then something magical happened. We learned the big secret! By being “calm” and motionless we could be in control. We learned that by lying on our backs and taking deep breaths and calming our bodies down to a still, we could float effortlessly on the water. Now we were floating on our backs in the water and using hardly any energy at all. We did not even really need to do anything else but relax.

It is this absence of fear and helplessness that makes it all possible to float. The “calm” becomes our power.

And this is my point for us to ponder on…

If we find ourselves in a desperate situation, in a new situation, an uncharted territory in life…Maybe if we take some deep breaths, take a long walk, calm our bodies and our minds down…then maybe we can learn to feel that comfort zone of this new challenge in life that is presented to us. Perhaps we can let the calm allow us to think of a way to resolve our present issues instead of letting the panic set in and start to flail and thrash in the water.

I am not suggesting that a walk and some deep breaths will make everything horrible go away, by no means. But I would like to suggest is that perhaps if life is throwing some punches…that we reflect back to when you first learned to swim or perhaps riding a bicycle for the very first time. It was frightening at first… but once you “stuck with it” and once you relaxed, calmed your nerves down a bit…you did it! You learned the basics. You learned how to overcome the challenge. In fact, you even got better at it.

So with this in mind… when the economy continues to challenge us, when we don’t get that job or perhaps lose one, or whatever the challenge may be…remember to take some deep breaths, not to panic, and find your calm. You will find the answer.

Hang in there and keep moving forward. If another person can do it…why can’t you?

I love to network in person and online. I believe being proactive is the key to overcoming these slow economic times. Being positive is great but without taking action, than there will be little results. I try to challenge myself by increasing my work load in increments of 10%. Each month I want to add another 10% to my plate. I refuse to let this slow economy define my life. I encourage everyone to keep getting up to the batters box and take another swing. Eventually we have to hit that darn ball right.

You couldn’t stop being intuitive, even if you tried. Intuition
is intrinsic to who you are and to how you relate to the world.
It never turns off and it will never leave you. Whether you
choose to listen and respond to your intuition is another matter
entirely.

Let’s widen the expanse of our visioning here and digress for a
moment to consider what happens when you go to sleep every
night. Researchers tell us we go into deep sleep, right down
into unconsciousness, for at least a couple of hours every
night. This is when our spirit reconnects to its cosmic energy
Source; it refuels, as it were, to sustain the body for the
dramas and experiences of the next day.

This time of spiritual recuperation is necessary for survival.
Our physical body simply cannot feed our higher ‘bodies’ –
emotional, mental, etheric and higher spiritual; the lesser
cannot support the greater without extra assistance. Sleep
deprivation is one of the most debilitating experiences one can
undergo, because the structure of our castle begins to crumble
when it is starved of the living substance it must receive
during deep sleep.

But what happens to the build-up of this finer energy food
during our waking hours? We burn it up. Just as a motor burns
gas, our bodies expend these higher energies as we use our
mechanical, physical body, our brain, thoughts, emotions and
spiritual longings. These last can draw more heavily on our
limited energy supplies than any other practise.

So can we have access to this higher energy during our waking
state? Absolutely. This is the process allowed and fostered by
expanding your awareness; your self consciousness; the
appreciation that you are a spiritual being experiencing
physicality.

When you remember you are this spiritual being, you reconnect to
the flow of life force energy. So what has all this to do with
intuition? Well, intuition is a direct way your higher spirit
connects with you when you go about your daily life.

Your higher self inspires you through feeling and emotion,
through intuition. Your intuition sends you energy impulses that
offer inner guidance and clarity in the course of daily living.

You can develop your recognition of these intuitive impulses
simply by following their guidance without analysing them with
your rational mind. They are of a different order than that of
rational thought. They come from a much finer energy vibration,
a spiritual essence vibration barely perceptible feeling, and
scarcely ever by thought processing.

Intuition communicates through feeling and emotion, not the mind
or thoughts. Tuning into your intuition is a skill we can all
learn and develop. Simply allow yourself to be in a state of
relaxed allowing and see the miracles happen!

You will begin to notice synchronicities; you will ‘relate’ to
other people and know what makes them tick. You will recognize a
kindred spirit. You will be able to tune into another’s energy
and send healing and love. You will begin to see events that are
seemingly from the past or the future, even though time is an
illusion and there is no time other than this moment. In all
these ways and many more, you will be tuning to your intuition
and following its inner promptings.

Spirit can never abandon us to only physical expression, because
we are spiritual in essence. The great joke of the universe is
that though we are spirit, we forget who we are and live our
lives in the illusion that we are our body and mind, when, in
fact we are spirit playing the game of living in the holodeck of
daily life in a physical body.

Listen to your intuition and follow its gentle persuasion. Trust
the intuitive information you get when it comes. Keep your
connection to your inner spirit open and flowing; it is one of
life’s greatest joys and deepest mysteries.
