Mark Stratton
Offbeat, extraordinary, intense, less-travelled, inspiring, and above all, fertile with stories … these are the attributes found in destinations I love to travel in. Leaving my base on Dartmoor, almost every month for the past 14years,
I've written, photographed, and more recently recorded for radio, in more than 110 countries. I feel every country, however downtrodden or infrequently visited, possesses experiences and wonderment to entice travellers. I relish my independence when travelling and usually spend longer away than I should so often find myself trying to catch up with work on my laptop at airports, on planes, or sometimes in more inspiring settings … perhaps overlooking the Ganges or under a palm tree on the beach. I'm also terminally indecisive.
I have spells thinking I should specialise in Africa, for all its unfulfilled potential and less-trodden travel opportunities. Then Asia’s colour and great cuisine seduces, before my head is turned again by Latin America’s frontier appeal. Above all, wherever I travel, I want to be a part of my stories, not only a dispassionate observer.
